Thank you for your interest in employment with the Los Alamos Public Schools.  To complete an application, please read the information below and follow the steps indicated:

Step 1:  Application

To be considered as an applicant, you must provide the following:

  • A completed application, which may be done online.
  • Transcripts (if applicable to the position for which you wish to be considered) you may send copies in lieu of official transcripts; however, official transcripts are required at the time of employment.
  • Three letters of recommendation are required.
  • Copy of your active NM Public Education Department license(s) or proof of applying for NM Public Education Department Licensure (if applicable to the position for which you wish to be considered).  For certification information, contact the New Mexico Public Education Department, Jerry Apodaca Education Building, 300 Don Gaspar, Santa Fe, NM 87501.  The telephone number is (505) 827-5821 or visit the website http://www.ped.state.nm.us

Please note:

  • Required documents must be submitted electronically with the application.
  • Completed applications will be kept on file for one year.
  • Los Alamos Public Schools must obtain three references for each candidate considered for employment unless the applicant has had only one employer for the previous five years:  
    Professional applicants should provide information that includes their most recent principal or cooperating teacher, college supervisor’s names, or other educational references deemed appropriate including current telephone numbers and email addresses.  
    All applicants should provide the names of the three most recent employers including the supervisors’ names, current telephone numbers, and email addresses. 
  • Failure to provide accurate information will result in a delay in the employment process.

Administrative and Certified Positions:

  • Please complete the administrative or certified application.
  • Attach a copy of all College/University Transcripts- Official Transcripts will be needed at time of hire.
  • Attach a copy of your active license(s) or proof of applying for New Mexico Licensure.  (If new to NM, complete and submit to NM Public Education Department the initial licensure application, money order, fingerprints cards, and all necessary documentation listed per NM PED).
  • Provide last two (2) years of Evaluations/PDP's/Reflections- New Mexico Teachers ONLY.
  • Provide a copy of any Teacher Exams you have taken.
  • List an email address for all References listed and Winocular will email the Reference listed a Reference form to be completed.  Or you may scan Letters of Recommendation.
  • Complete and mail to all past and present employer(s) the Certified Employment Verification Form, make copies as needed.
  • Attach any other information you feel will enhance your application.
  • If you are recommended for employment, a representative of the Human Resources Department will contact you to offer the position and arrange a time to complete the necessary paperwork. As part of the employment process, it will be necessary to complete a fingerprint clearance. The cost for fingerprinting must be paid at the time employment paperwork is completed. 

Non-Certified (non-teaching) Positions:

  • Please complete the non-certified application.
  • List an email address for all References listed and Winocular will email the Reference listed a Reference form to be completed. Or you may scan Letters of Recommendation.
  • Complete and mail to all past and present employer(s) the Non-Certified Employment Verification Form, make copies as needed.
  • Attach any other information you feel will enhance your application.
  • If you are recommended for employment, a representative of the Human Resources Department will contact you to offer the position and arrange a time to complete the necessary paperwork.  As part of the employment process, it will be necessary to complete a fingerprint clearance.  The cost for fingerprinting must be paid at the time employment paperwork is completed. 

Substitute Positions:

  • Please complete the substitute application.
  • Attach a copy of all College/University Transcripts for each degree you hold-  for degreed rate of pay. 
  • Attach a copy of your active New Mexico teaching license(s), for licensed rate of pay.
  • List an email address for all References listed and Winocular will email the Reference listed a Reference form to be completed. Or you may scan Letters of Recommendation.
  • You will need to do a total of six (6) hours of Substitute Teacher Observation Form within the Los Alamos Public School district. (Two hours at an Elementary Level, Two hours at the Middle School Level and Two hours at the High School Level) 
  • You will not need to complete the six (6) hours of Substitute Teacher Observations if you have engaged in paid employment as a Teacher during the three years prior to applying with Los Alamos Public Schools as a Substitute Teacher.  Please complete and mail to all past and present employer(s) the Certified Employment Verification Form, to verify the teaching experience.
  • Attach any other information you feel will enhance your application.
  • If you are recommended for employment, a representative of the Human Resources Department will contact you and arrange a time to complete the necessary paperwork. As part of the employment process, it will be necessary to complete a fingerprint clearance. The cost for fingerprinting must be paid at the time employment paperwork is completed. 

Step 2:  Interviews

Once you have completed the application process, your file will be reviewed and considered for employment.  A formal screening interview may be scheduled either in person or by telephone.  When the review process is completed, your application may be considered for existing vacancies for which you qualify.

Step 3:  Appointment

  • If you are recommended for employment, a representative of the Human Resources Department will contact you to offer the position and arrange a time to complete the necessary paperwork. 

 Please note:  Only a representative of the Human Resources Department is authorized to make offers of employment.

Step 4:  Orientation

Certified employees must attend new teacher orientation in their first year of employment with the district.  This orientation takes place in August one day prior to the return of all teachers.  Orientation sessions are contractually required of all certificated staff for one year, regardless of date of hire.

Classified employees must attend a new employee orientation session following acceptance of employment.
