Thank you for your interest in employment with the Los Alamos Public Schools.  To complete an application, please read the information below and follow the steps indicated:
Step 1:  Application
To be considered as an applicant, you must provide the following:
•    A completed online employment application.
•    Transcripts (if applicable to the position for which you wish to be considered) you may send copies in lieu of official transcripts; however, official transcripts are required at the time of employment.
•    Letters of recommendation may be submitted and need to be signed by your Administrator/Supervisor.
•    Copy of your active New Mexico Public Education Department license(s) or proof of applying for New Mexico Public Education Department Licensure (if applicable to the position for which you wish to be considered).  For certification information, contact the New Mexico Public Education Department at (505) 827-5821 or visit the website http://www.ped.state.nm.us

Please note:
•    Required documents listed must be uploaded electronically within your online employment application.
•    Completed applications will be kept on file for one year.
•    Los Alamos Public Schools must obtain a minimum of three references for each candidate considered for employment unless the applicant has had only one employer for the previous five years.  References need to be completed by an Administrator/Supervisor, we will not accept References completed by Family/Friends:
Certified Applicants should provide information that includes their most recent principal or cooperating teacher, college supervisor’s names, or other educational references deemed appropriate including current telephone numbers and email addresses.  
All Other Applicants should provide information that includes the three most recent employers administrator/supervisors’ names, current telephone numbers, and email addresses.
•    Failure to provide accurate information will result in a delay in the employment process.

Administrative and Certified Positions:
•    Please complete the Administrative or Certified application.
•    Attach a copy of all College/University Transcripts- Official Transcripts will be needed at time of hire.
•    Attach a copy of your active license(s) or proof of applying for New Mexico Licensure.  (If new to New Mexico, complete and submit to the New Mexico Public Education Department the initial licensure application, money order, fingerprints cards, and all necessary documentation listed per NM PED).
•    Provide last two (2) years of Evaluations/PDP’s/Reflections- New Mexico Teachers ONLY.
•    Provide a copy of any Teacher Exams you have taken.
•    List an email address for all Administrator/Supervisor References listed and Winocular will email the Reference listed a Reference form to be completed. Or you may upload signed Letters of Recommendation completed by each Administrator/Supervisor for each employer.
•    Complete and mail to all past and present employer(s) the Certified Employment Verification Form.pdf, make copies as needed.
•    Attach any other information you feel will enhance your application.
•    If you are recommended for employment, a representative of the Human Resources Department will contact you to offer the position and arrange a time to complete the necessary paperwork. As part of the employment process, it will be necessary to complete a fingerprint clearance. The cost for fingerprinting must be paid at the time employment paperwork is completed.

Classified (non-teaching) Positions:
•    Please complete the Classified application.
•    List an email address for all Administrator/Supervisor References listed and Winocular will email the Reference listed a Reference form to be completed. Or you may upload signed Letters of Recommendation completed by each Administrator/Supervisor for each employer.
•    Complete and mail to all past and present employer(s) the Non-Certified Employment Verification Form.pdf, make copies as needed. Please note, All New Classified Employees with Los Alamos Public Schools may only receive a maximum of five (5) years credit for previous paid work experience.  Los Alamos Public Schools does not give credit for any degrees the Classified applicant may hold.
•    Attach any other information you feel will enhance your application.
•    If you are recommended for employment, a representative of the Human Resources Department will contact you to offer the position and arrange a time to complete the necessary paperwork.  As part of the employment process, it will be necessary to complete a fingerprint clearance.  The cost for fingerprinting must be paid at the time employment paperwork is completed.

Coach Positions:
•    Please complete the Classified application.
•    List an email address for all Administrator/Supervisor References listed and Winocular will email the Reference listed a Reference form to be completed. Or you may upload signed Letters of Recommendation completed by each Administrator/Supervisor for each employer.
•    Complete and mail to all past and present Paid Coaching Employer(s) the Non-Certified Employment Verification Form.pdf, make copies as needed. Please note, All New Classified Employees with Los Alamos Public Schools may only receive a maximum of five (5) years credit for previous paid work experience.  Los Alamos Public Schools does not give credit for any degrees the Classified applicant may hold. A maximum of five (5) years paid coaching experience may be applied to placement on the Los Alamos Public Schools salary schedule.
•    If you do not hold an active New Mexico Coaching license from the New Mexico Public Education Department, you will need to apply for a New Mexico Coaching license at time of hire.
•    You will need to complete the state required online coaching courses, located at www.nfhslearn.com. The cost for the courses must be paid at the time of registration.
•    Attach any other information you feel will enhance your application.
•    If you are recommended for employment, a representative of the Human Resources Department will contact you to offer the position and arrange a time to complete the necessary paperwork.  As part of the employment process, it will be necessary to complete a fingerprint clearance.  The cost for fingerprinting must be paid at the time employment paperwork is completed.

Substitute Positions:
•    Please complete the Substitute application.
•    If you hold a New Mexico License, attach a copy of your New Mexico Teaching license(s).
•    If you do not hold an active New Mexico Teaching license from the New Mexico Public Education Department, you will need to apply for a New Mexico Substitute Teacher license at time of hire.
•    If you hold a degree, attach a copy of all College/University transcripts for each degree you hold.
•    List an email address for all References listed and Winocular will email the Reference listed a Reference form to be completed. Or you may upload signed Letters of Recommendation.
•    You will need to do a total of six (6) hours of Observations within the Los Alamos Public Schools.  (Two hours at an Elementary Level, Two hours at the Middle School Level and Two hours at the High School Level)  Please have each school site secretary sign off on the Substitute Teacher Observation Form.pdf .
•    You will not need to complete the six (6) hours of Substitute Teacher Observations if you have engaged in paid employment as a Teacher during the three years prior to applying with Los Alamos Public Schools as a Substitute Teacher.  Please complete and mail to all past and present employer(s) the Certified Employment Verification Form.pdf, to verify the teaching experience.
•    Attach any other information you feel will enhance your application.
•    If you are recommended for employment, a representative of the Human Resources Department will contact you and arrange a time to complete the necessary paperwork. As part of the employment process, it will be necessary to complete a fingerprint clearance. The cost for fingerprinting must be paid at the time employment paperwork is completed.

Step 2:  Interviews
Once you have completed the online employment application process, your online employment application will be reviewed for completion.  If your online employment application is not complete with all documents as stated above, it will remain Inactive.  Once your online employment application is complete, it will be changed to Active and will be considered for employment for which you qualify.  A Hiring Committee Member, from school site/department,  will contact the applicant to schedule a time to be Interviewed. Step 3:  New Employee Recommendation Process
•    If you are recommended for employment, a representative of the Human Resources Department will contact you to offer the position and arrange a time to complete the necessary New Hire paperwork. Please note:  Only a representative of the Human Resources Department is authorized to make offers of employment.

Step 4:  Orientation
Certified employees must attend new teacher orientation in their first year of employment with the district.  This orientation takes place in August, one day prior to the return of all teachers.  Orientation sessions are contractually required of all certificated staff for one year, regardless of date of hire. Classified employees must attend a new employee orientation session following acceptance of employment.

AESOP:  A centralized service for securing substitute teachers is provided for all schools. The system being used is AESOP (Automated Educational Substitute Operator). During the hiring process, teachers and substitutes are given a username and PIN. If you did not receive your username and PIN information to log into AESOP, please contact:  Ashley Salazar for Substitute username and PIN.   AESOP allows you to log in via the web- http://www.frontlinek12.com/aesop or telephone- 1-800-942-3767.

SUPPORT:  If you need assistance with AESOP, you can contact the school secretary,  Ashley Salazar, or AESOP at support@aesoponline.com. Once signed in, AESOP also has a very helpful and effective on-line chat feature.

For Substitutes:  Substitute Handbook.pdf
Your willingness to give service to Los Alamos Public Schools’ students in all curricular areas is appreciated. As a substitute staff member, you should follow regulations and policies of LAPS. Upon hiring, you will be given information with an option to view or print a Substitute Handbook that covers special regulations, preparation procedures, School Board policies, and more. Please refer to link under: For Substitutes. Substitutes should also visit the Student Health & Wellness page to review information regarding students with special health considerations. Substitutes should use AESOP to customize configuration rules that will determine when they would like to be notified of a sub request, preferred grade levels, days of availability, preferred working hours and more.

For Teachers:  Teachers should request substitutes through the AESOP system. If you do not know your log in information or if you need instructions or assistance, contact your school’s front office secretary or Leslie Gallegos at l.gallegos@laschools.net or (505) 663 2262. Teachers can use AESOP to request substitutes and custom create plans for substitutes that include schedules, starting times, ending times, and special instructions. You can also customize configuration rules to list preferred substitutes or exclude substitutes.
