Principal’s Welcome Letter
Welcome to LAMS, a great place to prepare for high school and for the future career endeavors of your student. There are many opportunities for students to grow as future leaders as they take on challenges and grow emotionally and socially. We have a great year planned with exciting new electives and initiatives to help better assist your student. This year, each student will receive a Chromebook at registration on August 7th or 8th, which we hope will further enhance his or her educational experience. The LAMS staff has high expectations because we believe that all our students can be successful in reaching their goals. Please do not hesitate to contact us during the year if we can be of any assistance.

Homework and Academic Time (HAT)
LAMS will be initiating next year a Homework and Academic Time (HAT) on Wednesdays during the regular school day. During HAT students may remain in their 7th period to finish homework, attend prearranged help sessions or work on enrichment activities. Regular classes will only be shortened slightly to accommodate for this additional time during HAT. HAT will be tied to 7th period and 7th period will be our last period of the day (Wednesdays only). 7th period was chosen due to the fact that the majority of teachers are instructing during this time. Also students that may be needing additional assistance (based on MAP scores) in ELA or Math will have their ELA or Math classes during 7th period to allow extra time for skills building and targeted instruction. GATE classes will also be during 7th period to allow for additional time for enrichment and passion project activities. Below is an example of what the schedule on Wednesdays will look like next year:
