Marilyn Fabry, a math teacher, has been fighting cancer this school year. The math department wanted to do something for her to brighten her spirits. She loves Orange Crush soda, hence the orange. Administration called a fire alarm and assembled the entire student body, to cheer her on and "Crush It!"

Three Los Alamos High Schools students recently competed in the 2013 INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) in Phoenix, Arizona. Holly Erickson, Coleman Kendrick and David Murphy competed against 1,400 students from 70 countries, provinces and states for three million dollars in prizes and awards.

The Central New Mexico Section of the American Chemical Society has announced the names of four outstanding high school chemistry students in the 2013 New Mexico Chemistry Olympiad competition.
On Tuesday, April 30, Alexandr Wang presented a $1,000 check to the Math Department of Los Alamos High School. Alex, a sophomore at LAHS, placed 3rd in the national competition, Who Wants to Be a Mathematician, and as a result of his achievement, the school was awarded $1,000.
Los Alamos High School received "Silver Medal" ranking in 2013 as one of America’s Best High Schools in an announcement by US News & World Report on April 24, 2013. From a review of 21,035 U.S. public high schools, Los Alamos ranked 556th in the nation. Los Alamos ranking was up significantly from the 2012 "Silver Medal" ranking of 638th.
A partnership with UNMLA, Los Alamos Public Schools, LANL Community Programs Office, LAPS Foundation and members of the community is move quickly to develop a 3-D printing course at UNMLA. When ready, high school students will take the course for a dual-credit. An adult course for community members is also under consideration.
March 14 (3.14) is celebrated annually by students and staff at Los Alamos Middle School. This year’s theme was “π Round the World.” The event is hosted by the math department under the direction of Clara Vigil. Albert Einstein was a special guest at the event.

The Los Alamos School Board selected Bernadette Lauritzen as their nominee for the 2013 New Mexico School Board's Excellence in Student Achievement Award. Ms. Lauritzen’s nomination was sent to the New Mexico State School Board Association because she has made a significant impact in student achievement for the Los Alamos schools.
Michelle Holland, who teaches high school English, was selected by editors of Pasatiempo as the 1st place winner in the poem category written by adults. Her entry, entitled It Wasn’t the Laundry on the Line, was featured in the December 28, 2012, edition of The New Mexican’s Weekly Magazine of Arts, Entertainment & Culture.
AdvancEd, which is the global leader in advancing excellence in education through continuous improvement, organization effectiveness and accreditation, completed its review of Los Alamos Public Schools with a recommendation for AdvancEd System Accreditation.
