The Safety Town program, for children entering Kindergarten in the Fall, is once again being offered as a collaborative effort between the Los Alamos Public Schools, Los Alamos Police Department, and the PROS Division. Attached is the 2016 Safety Town flier noting the program dates, times, and registration information for this FREE program. Additional information, including the parent manual which has additional program information, can be found on the Safety Town website at http://www.losalamosnm.us/rec/Programs/Pages/SafetyTown.aspx.
Please remember not to drop off or pick students up in the bus lane before or after school. This can create a big safety risk for students. Do not drive through the bus lane to drop off, or pick up, students between 8:00 - 830 or between 3:00 - 3:45. Only drivers with a handicap permit should drive in the bus lane during these times.
Over 230 works of student artwork from LAPS are on display at the 2015 NM state fair. We are proud to announce that several of our Mountain artists have work displayed. The NM State Fair is September 10th - 20th. The display is in the School Art building on the fair grounds in Albuquerque.
I hope you have the opportunity to visit the state fair and see the wonderful work from all Los Alamos students. Thank you to our district art teachers for the hardwork with their students and creating such a wonderful exhibit. A special thank you to Mrs. McInroy for being such a wonderful teacher and mentor for our students!
Congratulations to the following students who have work displayed:
Several Mountain students participated in the NM Summer Reading Challenge. They will be recognized at the school board meeting on September 8, 2015. We are proud of our summer readers! Each reader had to submit a list of the books they read along with an essay on "What I Love About New Mexico". The Governor and Secretary of Education sponsored this event. For more information, and a complete list of prize winners, go to: http://ped.state.nm.us/ped/ReadingChallenge/index.html.
The Los Alamos School Board will be presenting each Los Alamos student who participated with Chamber Checks at the school board meeting on Tuesday at 5:30 in the Los Alamos High School Speech Theater.
Congratulations Mountain Readers!
